Friday night 80's is back!
  • Who likes the Pretenders?

  • Oh my, yes. Pretenders = one of the great, underrappreciated bands ever. You know, IMHO.
  • Agreed. Here's one of my faves that just makes it under the wire decadewise

  • Smooth...

Along with Chrissie, my 80s girl.

  • Based on a recent discussion with an old friend, here's some more New Order, maybe the only 80's dance song featuring cow bells...

Sizzling bass by Hookie! As you can't miss, it was copied from VH1 Classic's 120 Minutes, which I used to watch before it was moved to 4 AM.

  • Let's keep dancing..

  • From the man who brought us the Buggles

  • Oh and thanks for the Blancmange TOT, a "tasty" fave you don't hear anymore.
  • OK, guess it's "Saturday night 80's" this week

  • From my favorite 80's power pop band, complete with Kevin Seal into from original 120 Minutes. Great song, impossibly cliched and meaningless 80's video

  • somg originally written in the 80s...and appropriate for tonight...

  • More stuff I got from listening to Toronto's world famous CFNY at college the early and mid 80's

    Definitely more next week.

  • I remember seeing OMD at the Paradise in Boston - great show!
  • Bettyd, thanks, that was another one on my list. Let's go down under and nearby..

  • And how could I forget

  • Let's span the decade with some crackin' stuff from Britain

Think Waterboys was posted in this thread's previous incarnation, but I'm sure nobody minds.

  • Guess I'm the last one interested. Anyone else wanna jump back in?

Back to the UK for some ska and mod

Not played on the BBC for its frank social commentary and pro-contraception view. Good thing we settled that debate!

  • Ah, another nostalgic trip down memory lane. I have four radio station call letters, a magazine article for everyone to read, and a video.

In no particular order (wait for it.....):

This weeks New Yorker Magazine (picture of dog selling his stuff)

    The accompanying video below

WLIR, 92.7, straight out of a blowing your mind right now.....

Autobahn 8:54 Kraftwerk Route 66 - Highway To Hell Rock
  • http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=gChOifUJZMc

(sorry for this, 'someone' changed how you copy videos here and I don't have the manual up here)

  • Monjay... get rid of "feature=player_detailpage&"

  • MonJay, thanks for responding to my cry for music with some great stuff. Thankfully, songs like "Takin' Retards to the Zoo" will at least raise an eyebrow nowadays. As for Kraftwerk, seeing them made me as happy as a little girl. I'll post some of my faves of theirs next Friday. As for WLIR, I mostly heard it when home from college, but it was amazing. Boy does NY radio bite the big one now.
  • Thank you for the Specials!!!
  • Yah, but there are some brief moments of brilliance out there in radio land. Truly getting harder and harder to find, but they are out there. If you loved seeing Kraftwerk, you may need to head into the city for the exhibit. I don't live down by you anymore, but I would be there in a heartbeat. Let me see if I can find the article from last weeks New Yorker magazine and re-post here.
  • Really bummed about Adam Yauch, posted my videos on that thread. Loved the Beasties since hearing Cooky Puss when it came out.

Monjay, as for Kraftwerk, it would have been hard to pick a show, good thing they all sold out. Also didn't realize Autobahn was from '74. Guess we can bend the rules for a group that invented electronic music and kept at it for 40 years.

Anyway, here's some of my faves
